My wife, Brittany, and I absolutely love Kearney and want to be an active part of the community. I look forward to the opportunity to help shape our students’ futures.
I will:
My background will allow me to bring a unique perspective to the board. I worked in the public school system at both Ogallala Public Schools and Educational Service Unit 10. Through ESU 10 I served the Greater Nebraska Educational Network Consortium delivering educational technology solutions to schools throughout south central and western Nebraska. For three years I was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Board of Education and served as co-chair for one year.
Since then I have volunteered with many community organizations and events that seek to introduce students to different technology. At the 2014 Broadband Connecting Nebraska Conference I hosted a workshop exploring ‘maker’ (DIY) technology like Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Additionally, I help with the Kearney area CoderDojo, a free, volunteer-led programming club for young people.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math are so critical to learning today. We need to ensure our students are given opportunities to explore these concepts within the classroom.
Unfortunately, today there are numerous threats facing our schools and students. We must do everything within our power to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
Budget woes can lead to cutting programs and staff, and also cause undue anxiety and distractions. We need to ensure our schools are well-funded, but also be good stewards of the money we do have.
